42 for Better Schools: Patsy Brumfield
Initiative 42 is a constitutional amendment to require the MS Legislature to fully fund K-12 schools, as it promised in 1997 with passage of the MS Adequate Education Program. It's been funded only twice, those times in election years.
"Since 2009, MS K-12 public schools have been short-changed nearly $1.7 BILLION. Our schools are suffering because of this financial short-fall. Our children are suffering from it. Teachers have been laid off, classroom sizes have increased, textbooks are scarce or out-of-date, technology woefully lags, bus fleets are aging, facilities are crumbling," says Patsy Brumfield, our speaker this month.
